In December 1999, Nannette and i attended the No Politics No Whiners Kite Workshop. This was the second in a series put on by Brian Champie and Tim Helwig. They're great guys and put a lot of work into a great kite making workshop. Brian's site Flyin with Brian is about the best resource you could have for finding out whats happening in northern California.
