As Halloween came around the local fabric store had this great farric, sort of a nylon we base with prismatic colored mylar on the top. Iwas told it was for "little mermaid costumes" - not in my world!
I brought home four yards and began looking for a project to use it on. I decided on a simple pinwheel della porta. It came out great and was the first time i had ever made a "fuzzy" tail. The material is on the heavy side so it takes a little more wind than you would expect from a della porta.
I liked it so much i made a second one for Joyce Irving as a Christmas present. That is the one you see pictured here. This one is made out of ripstop, while not as novel it is easier to work with and flies better.
